Intermarriage Ministry Fund

Document Actions

ringswcrosses.gifAbout 80% of our young adults are intermarrying. A ministry has been developed to address this change. The first stage of this ministry, the Interfaith Research Project (IRP), has been completed. This project has clearly defined many present and future needs. Based on a small annual budget, the following objectives have been met.

  • A comprehensive resource for couples and families, based on the findings of the IRP, has been written and published in 2002.
  • A comprehensive resource for clergy, counselors, professionals and lay workers who interact with intermarried couples is in publication.
  • The Interfaith marriage Web site has been designed and is up and running. This site has helped thousands of visitors. Go to: www.interfaith.goarch.org.
  • Individual and confidential queries, via e-mail directly to me, are answered on an ongoing basis.
  • Regular intermarriage-related articles, as well as articles on family life, appear in your Orthodox Observer and numerous other publications.
  • Several academic articles have been published in peer review journals.
  • Over the past few years, I have also shared this knowledge in seminars, workshops and on the radio on a regular basis.

This work is not yet complete, and a great deal still remains to be done. Some proposed future projects that require funding are as follows:

  • Additional Orthodox Observer articles
  • Development of video and audio resources
  • Completion of a resource for young adults contemplating intermarriage
  • Develop materials for adolescents in collaboration with the Departments of Religious Education and Youth and Young Adults Ministries
  • Continued development of a premarital preparation program for intermarried couples who plan to intermarry
  • Refinement of an Intermarriage Workshop offered to seminarians at Hellenic College, Holy Cross
  • Refinement of a marriage enrichment seminar for students at Hellenic College, Holy Cross
