Metropolitan Joachim of Chalcedon Suffers Stroke in Istanbul Feb. 6 -- Archbishop Demetrios Expresses Concern

New York, NY His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America and Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, announced today that His Eminence Metropolitan Joachim of the Senior See of Chalcedon, suffered a stroke at his residence on February 6th in Chalcedon, Istanbul, Turkey and is being treated at the American Hospital in Istanbul.
Immediately upon hearing the news, Archbishop Demetrios expressed his own personal prayers as well as those of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese, for the quick and complete recovery of Metropolitan Joachim during this difficult period.
His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who had been in Austria, cut short his visit to return to Istanbul to be with Metropolitan Joachim.
